4 Mobile Design Mistakes to Avoid

More and more people are visiting websites from their phones, and if your mobile design isn’t working, you are missing out on tons of leads, customers, and/or readers. We’ve compiled a list of the 4 most common mobile design mistakes to avoid. Check them out (and make sure your website is optimized for mobile design).

No Mobile Design

It seems a little obvious, but unfortunately, not having a mobile design is still one of the most common mistakes. If your website is not responsive and you do not have a mobile design for your mobile viewers, your customers are probably very frustrated. If this is you (or you aren’t sure), go load your website on a phone right now and try to use it. You may be surprised how different it looks off of the big screen.

Tiny Buttons

Even mobile-optimized websites have mistakes, and tiny buttons or crowded links top the list. Readers need to be able to tap any button or link without fear of accidentally clicking something else. Remember that people have clumsy fingers (and sometimes poor eyesight) so give your buttons and links enough space and make them large enough to see clearly.

Long Forms

If you’ve ever tried to fill out a poorly designed mobile form, you know exactly what we are talking about. The keyboard on a phone pops up and covers half of the screen so your form should either automatically scroll as people fill out fields or be short enough that it fits in half of the screen. Once again, clumsy fingers have a hard time tapping in small spaces, and many users hate typing on their phones. This is particularly true if your primary demographic is less technologically savvy.

Data Heavy Images

Load time is critical for search engine ranking, but it’s even more important on mobile devices. Viewers may have difficulty accessing your website because of limited data coverage or spotty wifi, so you should make your website load as quickly as possible. Having resized images that load on small screens is the best way to speed things up, and an important piece that a lot of designers miss. Need to find a designer to help fix your website?
